In one of his 1980s Driff’s Guides the infamous, almost mythical bookshop reviewer Driffield described the original Book and Comic Exchange shop as having the “aura of somewhere out of a Jim Thompson novel”. Since then, we have moved to bigger and brighter premises, but still maintain the shop’s original, unique feel.

As well as a wide selection of literary fiction, poetry and plays we are particularly strong on music, film, art and fashion related items. We also hold full shelves of sciences, history, military history, biography and cookery as well as our celebrated “sci-fi corridor”. We’re always looking to buy new stock and are more than happy to look at any and all items bought to us. We aim to have at least one buyer working in any department on any given day. However, to avoid disappointment, especially if you’re bringing a large/very specialist collection or travelling a long distance, we always advise calling ahead.
